Is it possible to run two 2560x1440 displays at full resolution (Thunderbolt or via Dual DVI adapter) on the side of it's main display As far as I know, the previous iMac could handle them with no problems and MacBook Pro Retina can handle them as well. Update: I've just gone into Disk Utility and I've noticed that SMART is reporting impending disk failure. The iMac 27' late 2013 (Haswell processor) has 2 IO Thunderbolt ports. If I try and run the OSX version of Heaven it just displays rubbish and splashes of colours, though it's doing so at 60FPS!Īnyway, enough ramblings.I must keep trying to get it to do the blacking out so I can test an external display vis the mini dp port to try and rule out the logic/graphics board. Personally I think it's hardware related glitch rather than a software glitch tbh but the only slight spanner in the works is that all though every video format I play from internet flash videos and youtude plus various local mp4, mkv's and Quicktime stuff plays fine. I can also recall that if I turned the iMac off from the wall once shutdown (while the screen was still going off) and left it for a bit I would get a bit longer with a working screen before the blackout would occurring. I even did a safe mode restart too and still booted to login. If I waited a bit and then used the sleep trick to get a brief working screen you can see the machine sat at the desktop. This is caused by the port and the firmware, so starting up in Windows won't change anything. You can't use your iMac as an external display for the old PC. You can still hear the chimes and the machine continues to boot in the background we no signs of any other problem preventing it starting. (93,533 points) A: The problem is that a Thunderbolt iMac only supports Target Display mode through a Thunderbolt cable, and Mini DisplayPort ports don't detect Thunderbolt cables. So, from a push button switch/turn on and also from a restart I got a a brief flash of white screen and then the screen goes black. By doing so I was able to do a proper shutdown, I also tested a restart too by using the same method. Just some thoughts and sharing observations while it was playing up yesterday: As the video above shows the screen just dies and by pressing the on/off button you cab put the machine to sleep and then pressing again bring it out of sleep mode which activates the screen for a few brief seconds at best. I'm currently trying to stress the machine into doing it again. I'm still trying to get the damn thing to show the problem again!! Since resetting Nvram the issue stopped straight away and hasn't returned since.hmm.
